Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have welcomed their first child together.
The couple, who announced their engagement last year, welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove this month.
They announced the birth in a statement to UNICEF, of which they are both ambassadors.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” they said. “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.
“Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.
“Since Covid-19, many more newborn lives are at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases.
“As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathise with struggling parents now more than ever.”
The couple added that they have set up a donation page with UNICEF to mark their daughter’s birth. All funds raised will go towards mothers and children struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
“You are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child,” they said. “We hope your (heart) can bloom with generosity.”
Perry and Bloom have been dating since 2016. They announced their engagement last year and revealed their pregnancy once month later.
They had planned to marry in Japan this summer. The occasion has since been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is Katy’s first child and Orlando’s second. He is already father to nine-year-old Flynn with ex wife Miranda Kerr.
The actor said earlier this month that he was excited “to have a little daddy’s girl.”
“I hope she’s gonna love me as much as I love her,” he said. “But that daddy-girl thing, you know, and that love of your life feeling is I think right around there, you know.
