Kim Kardashian has 111 million followers on Instagram – and she’s come in for criticism for the latest product she’s promoting to them.
The reality star shared an image of herself with an appetite suppressant to her account last night.
“You guys… @flattummyco just dropped a new product,” she wrote.
“They’re Appetite Suppressant Lollipops and they’re literally unreal.
“They’re giving the first 500 people on their website 15% OFF so if you want to get your hands on some… you need to do it quick! #suckit”
The post generated some negative feedback from commenters, one of whom accused her of promoting eating disorders.
“You could be doing so much positive work with your platform and yet you choose you promote such an unhealthy message to young women and girls who already struggle hugely with body image… disappointing and irresponsible.”
“Endorsing eating disorders? Disgusting.”
“111 million one followers and you choose to influence something that can influence a bad relationship with food amongst young women. Food is not the enemy and this was so disappointing to see.”
“This is an absolutely awful thing to most. Why do appetites need suppressing?! As someone with a huge following you have a responsibility not to post disgusting things like this. Delete it before it gets worse and before a lot of your worldwide fanbase completely lose hope and see this! Absolutely shocking.”
“You have the power to change views and promote confidence in people. Why on the earth would you promote a product that stands for starvation in young people. It breaks my heart that you would advertise a product like this.”
Kim has yet to respond to the furore.
She and other family members have a long association with Flat Tummy Co, the brand behind the appetite suppressant lollipops.
