Kit Harington said he “blubbed his eyes out” over the ending to Game of Thrones.
The 32-year-old has played Jon Snow on the HBO epic for a decade, and admitted he had a bit of trouble with his emotions when it came time for the series to end.
Appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week, he explained:
“I had my theories [on how it ends]. I had theories all along, and all of them were wrong. I’m quite glad I never told anyone my theories as they were all wrong.
“I was very shocked and surprised at certain events unfolding. And then I blubbed my eyes out. I cried. I cried, yeah.”
The actor said that he was the last one among the cast members to learn just how the series ends – as “laziness” kept him from reading the scripts.
He continued:
“We had a table read and I was the one person who hadn’t read the episodes.
“Everyone else had them like, three days before and read them and I just … I think I told everyone it was because I didn’t want to know what happened but I think it was just laziness that I didn’t read them.
“Anyway, I got to the table and they used me as a litmus test. [Creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss] were looking at me to see how the events unfolded, and they got some pretty good reactions.
“It was all filmed.”
He added that his wife (and former co-star) Rose Leslie still doesn’t know how the series ends, after she didn’t talk to him “for two days” when he told her the end of season 7 after she asked.
“She’s guessed, she has guessed every single possible outcome bar the one that happens,” he joked.
- Game of Thrones’ eighth (and final) season will begin on April 14.
