Unearthed Matty Healy interview claims he would never date Taylor Swift

It's "an emasculating thing"

It has emerged that The 1975 frontman, Matty Healy is allegedly dating American singer Taylor Swift.

It has been reported that the pair are "madly in love" and a photo of Taylor and Matty's mum, Denise Welsh even trended online yesterday amid the romance rumours.

Matty is supposedly flying to Nashville, Tennessee, this weekend to support Swift in the next phase of her tour and that's when the couple plan to go public.

However, now it's been revealed that rockstar Matty Healy once claimed that he would never date the Anti-hero singer.

In an unearthed interview with Q, Matty said he would feel "emasculated" if he ever dated Taylor because of her fame.

According to The Sun, The 1975 singer explained: "I don’t do anything else, right, so it doesn’t leave a lot of room for me going out, or shagging someone.

"So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere. I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, 'Who’s Matt Healy?' so that was cool."

"I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend"

In that 2016 interview, Matty revealed that he never thought of their fling as a big deal.

He believed that if it wasn't Taylor Swift he dated, no one would be talking about it.

Matty said Taylor didn't have an impact on his life but he found it interesting how so many people wanted to get involved.

In the interview, he added: "If I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would’ve been, 'F**king hell! I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.'

"You know, fu*k that. That’s also a man thing, an emasculating thing."

Taylor Swift and her long-term boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, split in February.

The news was leaked on April 8th, which is Matty Healy's birthday, so fans are convinced this was a subtle hint of confirmation.

Some have been speculating whether there was any crossover between the relationships but a source close to Swift confirmed that there was absolutely none.
