Queen Elizabeth made the sweetest joke in her speech at Charles’ 70th birthday party

How cute is she?

Happy Birthday Prince Charles, congrats on a lovely life so far!

The royal family celebrated the big birthday with a very glitzy party.

And like any proud mother, Queen Elizabeth gave a heartfelt, but funny speech to honour her son.

She said:

“It is a privilege for any mother to be able to propose a toast to her son on his 70th birthday.”

“It means that you have lived long enough to see your child grow up. It is rather like — to use an analogy I am certain will find favour — planting a tree and being able to watch it grow,” she added, referring to Charles’ love of the environment.”

Context: Prince Charles loves trees. Like absolutely adores them.

“My mother saw me turn 70, of course,” the queen added.

“And she was heard to observe that 70 is exactly the age when the number of candles on your cake finally exceeds the amount of breath you have to blow them out.”

Lol Lizzie, you joker.

“Myself and my husband, Philip, have seen Charles become a champion of conservation and the arts, a great charitable leader, a dedicated and respected heir to the throne to stand comparison with any in history, and a wonderful father.”

Wonderful father though, our hearts!

“Most of all, sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative.”

Nice of her to mention Camilla, all the same.

“So this toast is to wish a happy birthday to my son, in every respect a ‘duchy original,’” she said.

More context here… Prince Charles is the current holder of the Duchy of Cornwall, which makes him a Duke.

The joke though here… a Duchy Original is a type of biscuit. Another Zinger out of Queen Elizabeth.

“To you Charles. To the Prince of Wales.”
