Selena Gomez defends her new music after Hailey Baldwin drama

'I can't pretend that I'm not going through something.'

Selena Gomez has defended her new song after what fans thought was a pointed reaction from Hailey Baldwin.

Selena released new track Lose You To Love Me on Tuesday, which is thought to be about her past romance with Justin Bieber.

Later that day, Justin’s new wife Hailey Baldwin shared a screenshot of the song I’ll Kill You by Summer Walker on her Instagram story.

Some reckoned this was a reaction to Selena’s song. The singer has said that she had to write it “regardless of what was going to come after.”

“I wrote this song over a year ago and it’s obviously a very emotional song for me but it’s interesting to see how far I’ve come from that point to now,” Selena told Radio Disney.

“And me sharing my story is exactly what I’ve always done, because I can’t be inauthentic, I can’t pretend that I’m not going through something when it’s obvious that I had been.

“It’s one of those songs where I feel it’s out, it’s released, and I hope that girls and guys all over the world can feel supported. Because that’s a feeling everyone has felt.”

For her part, Hailey has denied that her I’ll Kill You post was about Selena.

“Please stop with this nonsense … there is no ‘response’. This is complete BS,” she said on social media in now-deleted comments.

Selena and Justin spent several years in an on-off relationship before breaking up for good in March 2018. Justin married Hailey last autumn.
