Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have reportedly split after almost a year together.

The couple were first spotted together in early January 2017, before going public with their relationship on social media in April. They made their first official appearance as a couple together on the red carpet at the Met Gala in May. But, according to People, the pair have been “going back and forth” for awhile about their relationship, and the difficulties of being apart. They said:

“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”

The source added that while things may be over for the couple at the moment, they’re still in touch. The news comes as Selena was spotted hanging out with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber on a number of occasions, which pretty much sent fans of the former couple into a frenzy. But the same source told People that the duo, known to fans as ‘Jelena’, are not back together. Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to notice that The Weeknd unfollowed a number of those closest to Selena, including her mum, on Instagram. He has also since taken down all traces of their relationship from social media. On The Weeknd and Selena, the same source said:

“It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months.”
