There were emotional scenes in Coronation Street this evening as David Platt’s rapist finally exited the soap.

Josh Tucker drugged and attacked David earlier on this year, leaving the hairdresser traumatised and emotionally unstable.

David reported his attack to the police but nothing ever came of it, with Josh eventually arriving back to the street after a fight left him partially blind.

This evening, David finally got some form of closure as Josh left the street for good.

The two men spoke about the attack and for the first time during tonight’s episode, Josh admitted what he had done.

David didn’t forgive his rapist, but rather left him alone outside of Weatherfield before driving off and returning home to his family.

Actor Jack P Shepherd said that while what happened to David was extremely traumatic, he believes that characters are always developing.

He also suggested that David has done next-to-all that he can to move past his attack.

He said:

“After a while, the character must come to terms with what has happened to them and move on, then you can live out other stories. If they don’t, then what do they do? Will they be depressed or do they leave?

“It comes down to that, really. David has been through a lot, he’s a resilient character. He’s had numerous people trying to kill him before and his wife died, so there are things that he’s got over and come out the other side.”

Following the scenes, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the emotive ending.
