Disney taking "different approach" to Snow White after Peter Dinklage critique
Changes are being made.
Disney has promised to take a"different approach" when it comes to the remake of Snow White after the live action film received a lot of backlash.
Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage spoke out against the remake of a "backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together" and called for Disney to make some major changes in the new film.
Speaking on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Dinklage accused Disney of being half-hearted when it came to the modern aspects of the film, and in the progressive way they wanted to retell the film.
Disney has been very proud to reveal that Latina actress Rachel Zegler has been cast as snow white, but Dinklage says that they are still prepetuating damaging stereotypes.
He said: "Literally no offence to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
"Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f**king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together?
"What the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.
"They were so proud of that, and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing but I’m just like, ‘What are you doing?’"
In response to his accusations, Disney has now pledged that they will take a "different approach" when portraying the seven dwarfs.
A spokesperson for Disney said: "To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.
"We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."
