"If we don’t do it, who will?”

The Handmaid's Tale

It’s been one of the biggest television successes of 2017.

The Handmaid’s Tale has been a tour de force since the moment it first hit television screens.

The adaptation of Margret Atwood’s dystopian novel, which we reckon is one of the best new shows of 2017,  has been met with acclaim across the globe since it began airing.

It scored an impressive 13 Emmy nominations, including ones for outstanding drama series; outstanding writing; and one for Elisabeth Moss as outstanding actress in a drama series.

But there was one aspect of the show that was particular important for Elisabeth, who starred as the lead character Offred as well as being an executive producer on the show.

And it all comes down to the fact that four of the five directors for the 10 episode series were women.

She told The New York Times:

“It was not only important for setting the tone of the show, but we all believe that it is incredibly important to hire women behind the camera.

“There’s a huge imbalance that needs to be corrected, and we’ve got to put our money where our mouth is and set that example as producers.
