Ellen Fitzpatrick

The Golden Girls are back.

Some people love watching new shows, others love binging old series’ over and over again.

For those of us who would happily watch re-runs for the rest of our lives, we have some good news for you.

There’s just something about rewatching a TV show, the comfort of knowing what’s about to happen and already knowing the characters as if they’re your best friends.

And Disney+ obviously knows the way to our hearts and is giving us exactly what we wanted, it’s bringing The Golden Girls back to our TV screens.

Since Star was brought to the streaming service, we’ve been blessed with sitcoms, dramas and everything in between that we can watch on an endless loop.

Almost 30 years since the show ended, it’s making its return on July 2nd with all seven seasons ready for us to watch.

But if you’ve never seen the show, or it’s been so long so you’ve forgotten, let us give you a rundown.

The series is set in Miami, Florida and follows four older women as they navigate life after marriage and just have fun while doing it.

It stars Beatrice Arthur as Dorothy, Rue McClanahan as Blanche, Betty White as Rose and Estelle Getty as Sophia and gives an insight into the four women’s tight-knit group as they all live together.

With running jokes and classic one liners, the show has been deemed one of the best sitcoms of all time, which makes sense if you see the number of awards it got.

It dealt with a number of themes and issues that were very taboo for its time and despite the attitudes around them being a little bit dated, the show has been praised for bringing them to light all those years ago.
