Helen Flanagan reportedly ‘quits’ Coronation Street after 20 years

She has played Rosie Webster since 2000.

Helen Flanagan has reportedly called time on the cobbles to focus on other projects and her family.

The star, who has played the discernible Rosie Webster for two decades, has seemingly decided to take time away from the street, leaving questions as to when she will return, if ever.

A source told the Sun: “It’s up in the air as to whether she will ever return. She has other career dreams she’d like to work on before making up her mind.

“She wants to focus on her three children and has other career dreams, including acting roles, she would like to work on before making up her mind whether to reprise her role as Rosie.

“In the short term the break would be around two to three more years but there’s no saying she will come back even after that.”

Helen, who this year welcomed her third child with partner Scott Sinclair, has yet to address her status on the soap, so naturally nothing can be confirmed until she says so.

The last time Helen appeared as Rosie on Coronation Street was 2018. The actor previously announced her decision to leave the series back in 2011, stating that she “didn’t like” playing a character who was so “bitchy.”

“When I’m acting, I like things to feel real, and I didn’t like Rosie’s bitchiness,” she said. “She went through a phase of being such a catty girl.

“I always said to myself that I was going to leave when I turned 21. For me, the show represents my childhood, and I just couldn’t have properly become an adult if I hadn’t left.”

Helen later returned to Corrie in 2016 before departing on maternity leave when she was pregnant with her second child two years later.

“Helen loves Coronation Street, her character and the family but it takes up a huge amount of her time and it’s become unfeasible,” the source went on.

“ITV have left the door open for her should she ever wish to come back.”
