It’s All Kicking Off Between Jeremy Clarkson And Chris Evans Over That Top Gear Job

Jeremy Clarkson has claimed that BBC bosses asked him to return to Top Gear just a week before Chris Evans was announced as host.

The controversial presenter was fired from the show following an altercation with producer Oisin Tymon but in his latest column for The Sun, Clarkson has said that he met with a representative of the BBC earlier this month and was offered his job back.

“I had a meeting with a BBC executive last week and they asked if I’d come back to Top Gear. Too much has gone on. After I’d been compared to Jimmy Savile by someone from the BBC and it was splashed all over a Sunday newspaper, how could I go back?” he said.

Following his exit from the show, Clarkson is believed to be in the process of recruiting former co-stars Richard Hammond and James May to launch a rival to the long-running motoring show and took a sly dig at his replacement in the newspaper.

“I hope Chris enjoys running what, for the next couple of weeks, is the world’s biggest car show.”

The BBC has since denied asking Clarkson to return, with Chris Evans showing there is definitely some bad blood between the pair by accusing the 55-year-old of hearing voices in his head.

“Well, as to whether Jeremy was offered his old job back or not, either outside or inside his own head, he still said no to the voices,” he said on his morning breakfast show.

“Therefore, I shall continue my resurrection of the world’s favourite television car show as auditions for a new Top Gear presenter go live in 26 minutes from now and I can’t wait.”
