Why is Jessie J on a Chinese talent show and what’s the prize?

People are VERY confused.

This is all very confusing!

Jessie J is one of the most successful female artists to have come out of the UK, however, her latest career move has raised quite a few eyebrows among fans.

The Bang Bang singer is taking part in a Chinese singing competition show and has been sharing clips of her performances on her social media.

Yes, multi-award-winning Jessie J is competing in a Chinese X Factor of sorts.

So, what actually is this show?

Airing its first season back in 2013, Singer’s format differs a little from the singing competitions we’re used to.

Contestants come in the form of established singers who perform each week in the hopes of winning the votes of audience members.

The show is divided up into five rounds with eight singers competing. Each week the singer with the lowest vote is eliminated, similarly to most shows.

Now from there, there are competitors that join the show throughout the rounds, but to be honest, we’re confused by how that part works.

And as for the winner’s prize, it seems like the top performer simply earns bragging rights.

Jessie J has become the first British artist to perform on the show and has nailed it with her first two performances.

Week one saw her perform a killer rendition her own song Domino and for week two it was time for a cover, and Jessie chose Whitney Houston’s power ballad. I Have Nothing.

You may ask, ‘why is she choosing to take part in the show?’. Well, according to Jessie, it’s just another opportunity to sing.

“There’s nothing I can’t do,” she told The Straits Times.

“That’s how I feel in my heart…I’m turning 30 this year and I just think, why not? It’s an experience I’ll never forget and may never get again and I’m gonna sing like I’ve never sung before.”

However, like us, many have been really confused about her appearance on the show and, naturally, have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.

But why she’s on it is really irrelevant.

We’re just happy to have incredible performances from Jessie to look forward to every week… viewers votes depending, of course.
