Kerry Washington has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix musical The Prom.

According to Deadlinethe Scandal star’s role in the movie has not yet been revealed.

Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, The Prom will follow four Broadway actors – Dee Dee Allen (played by Meryl Streep), Barry Glickman (James Corden), Angie Dickinson (Nicole Kidman) and Trent Oliver (Andrew Rannells) – who are looking for something that will rehabilitate their careers.

And they reckon they have found one in Emma, a young high school girl in Indiana who had her prom cancelled when she tried to bring her girlfriend as her date.

Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin wrote the screenplay. Murphy, Alexis Woodall, Bill Damaschke and Dori Berinstein are set to produce.

Also said to be joining the cast are Ariana Grande, who will play popular classmate Alyssa, the daughter of the head of the PTA; Awkwafina will play publicist Ms. Sheldon; Key and Peele‘s Keegan-Michael Key will play Principal Hawkins, an ally for Emma and Dee Dee’s love interest.

The publication previously reported that The Prom is set to go into production in December, with the expectation of being released in Fall 2020.

We already can’t wait for this.
