“What, like it’s hard?” Mindy Kaling confirmed as co-writer of Legally Blonde 3

It’s HAPPENING.

A while back, word spread that Legally Blonde 3 was happening, it was in the works, we were finally going to find out what happened to Elle Woods and her adorable array of dogs.

We even had a released date at one point, a date that has – unfortunately – come and gone without even a whisper of a film.

But now it appears as though things are back up and running, because Mindy Kaling has been confirmed as the official co-writer of the upcoming sequel.

Stunning news, tbf.

Kaling, who is best known for her work on The US Office, The Mindy Show, and Ocean’s 8, will be writing the third instalment of the movie alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer, Dan Goor.

A solid team all round then.

Reese Witherspoon, who famously plays Harvard’s own Elle Woods, announced the news this week stating that the new writing team is, indeed, Elle Woods approved. Thank god for that.

“Great news alert!! she wrote. “Some things are just meant to be! I’m SOOO excited to have @MindyKaling and #DanGoor writing Legally Blonde 3!”

“This is #ElleWoodsApproved!”

Legally Blonde 3 was first announced back in 2018 when Witherspoon shared a photo of herself floating around a pool in true Elle Woods fashion.

Since then, however, there hadn’t been any major updates on the film’s progress. That was, until now.

The impending movie comes almost 20 years after the release of the series’ first instalment back in 2001, and the subsequent sequel, Legally Blonde: Red, White, and Blonde in 2003.

Legally Blonde 3 (full title yet to be announced) stars Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Coolidge, and Alanna Ubach.
