It looks like the food challenge is officially getting scrapped from Love Island

Thank God.

We come bearing some very good news – it looks like those disgusting food challenges are getting scrapped from Love Island this year.

The show’s bosses have reportedly axed the challenge after many viewers over the years branded it “disgusting” as contestants passed food and drink between each other’s mouths.

According to The UK Sun, the challenge wasn’t actually scrapped because of how awful it is to look at, but due to the show aiming to be less wasteful and more environmentally cautious.

A source told the publication: “There are going to be lots of activity based challenges this series to make up for the lack of food ones.

“Bosses decided it was time to move on food wastage as they try and be as environmentally friendly as possible.”

ITV has since confirmed the news, saying: “We are stepping away from food challenges as we know them.”

Love Island fans are now calling for the series to go back to its old roots ahead of the show airing next week.

After fans got a glimpse at the new batch of islanders for the upcoming winter series, they pleaded with the showrunner to ditch the coupling twist that was introduced last year.

Fans took to social media to urge the show to return to the old way of bringing the couples together – letting them choose for themselves rather than a public vote.

For the first time in the show’s history, the islanders last summer did not get to pick who they wanted to couple up with but instead it was left in the hands of the public who voted for who they wanted to see be paired up.
