Dubliner Ele Breslin is currently attending BIMM Institute and if this heartwarming track is anything to go by she is putting her time at the music college to good use.
Studying Commercial Modern Music, Ele co-wrote a touching track with fellow classmates Stephen Ward and Hugh O'Neill on a subject very close to her heart.
Ele is a member of the LGBT community and like most strongly believes in equal rights.
“I have felt compelled to show my support for the Yes campaign for the upcoming referendum for marriage equality”.
“This year I came out to my friends and family as a lesbian. This song was co-written by myself and two friends at college. It was written very much in the spirit of what was happening in my personal life but also because of the social and political difficulties that the LGBT community find themselves confronted with in Ireland and indeed internationally at the moment [sic]”.
“While this song has tremendous importance for me personally, I think that it resonates with a lot of LGBT who have found themselves struggling with their sexuality and feeling like they are at odds with social norms and expectations.
“For me, the most difficult part of coming out was overcoming the fact that I wasn't doing anything wrong and realising that my feelings were just as valid as any other heterosexual person. I know that now. But unfortunately there are still many LGBT who are still struggling.
Ele hopes that the sentiment behind the gorgeous track ‘I’m Not Better Off Without You’ helps anyone who is experiencing difficulties and also instil a sense of hope for the 'Yes' campaign.
“On the most basic level, this song is about love and personal acceptance and if it helps even one person, I would be happy”.
With a chorus that is guaranteed to pull at the heartstrings, Ele has definitely succeed in her mission, as the song conveys a powerfuland emotive message: "I'm not better off without you, I'm not better off alone. I don't want to be without you, I don't want to be alone. I don't want to live without you, I don't want to live alone"
