OFFICIAL: Captain Marvel 2 is now in the works

Paul Moore

The most powerful hero in the MCU is back.

After her dramatic intervention during the epic battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, we always knew that Carol Danvers would return.

There’s also the fact that her standalone film made more than a billion dollars at the box office, so that helps.

Yes, she’s the most powerful hero in the MCU and an integral part of The Avengers, but there’s one thing that’s more powerful than all of The Avengers combined; money.

Ok, we’re not being cynical, but that type of box office return will always help any chances of a sequel being made.

Thankfully, Captain Marvel was pretty good as the buddy-cop tone between a de-aged Nick Fury and Danvers was refreshing to see.

Well, Brie Larson will be firing up those photon blasts once more because a sequel is on the way.

Unlike the original, The Hollywood Reporter have stated that the action in Captain Marvel 2 will move away from the ’90s. They also report that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and directed the first film, will not return to helm the sequel. However, the duo are in in talks to remain in the Marvel Universe and direct a possible Disney+ series.

In terms of a potential release date for Captain Marvel 2, 2022 is being targeted, along with a female director to helm the project.

Megan McDonnell, a staff writer on the upcoming Marvel-based series WandaVision, will be writing the script.

If you didn’t see the first film, the story revolves around Carol Danvers as she becomes the vastly powerful Captain Marvel after the Earth is caught at the middle of a galactic conflict in 1995.

That all seems very grand and epic, but it boasts a belting soundtrack and a pretty class cat (flerken).

All in all, with Black Widow, The Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, Blade and even more movies on the way, the next stages of the MCU should be very interesting.

Dear Marvel, just bring back the cat for Captain Marvel 2. That’s all we ask.
