Still here? Cool.
The actor explained that he had signed on for the movie after getting the call for the sequel - and there were two people he was keen to make sure were involved.
He said:
"I said, 'is Amanda doing it', they said 'yes'; I said 'is Meryl doing it', they said yes."Later on, he discussed how he thought that the sequel is "as good as, if not better than" the first film. He explained:
"[It is about] how Meryl [Streep] met Sam, Harry and it’s delightful – there’s much more meat on the bone on this one. "I think it’s as good as, if not better than, the last one. We all felt that, and the first one was so brilliant and such an unexpected surprise for everyone. Just went through the roof."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L2P69EHn2w Which is where the problems appeared to arrive. Phillip told Pierce:
"I don’t think you realise Pierce that you’ve just done a little bit of a spoiler. "We were keeping a secret, maybe I’ll just let it go, and if you spotted what the spoiler was then well done."Curious as to what the possible spoiler is? If you're still here at this point, we'd imagine so. So, ever since the trailer debuted, fans had been wondering about the fate of Meryl's character, Donna.
She's not in any of the previews - and a lot of mentions of Donna are about honouring her memory, leaving some people fearful Donna had passed away before the events of the second film.
Basically, if Pierce said that Meryl being actually in Mamma Mia! 2 was a requirement for him signing on....surely they wouldn't kill off Donna, would they?!
