Rose of Tralee donuts exist, so we needn’t be sad about the show being cancelled

Jade Hayden

Finally, I was beginning to worry.

The Rose of Tralee has, like the rest of life, been cancelled.

The long-running beauty queen festival will not take place this year for the first time in its 60 year history due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

And while many of us will be severely lamenting the absence of Dáithí and all his lovely ladies this year, the prevalence of coronavirus doesn’t need to mean being entirely Rose-less this week.

In order to curb this deep sense of loss, Dublin donut shop The Rolling Donut has teamed up with Deliveroo to create a collection of Rose of Tralee inspired pastries that are almost as glam as the event itself.

The limited edition box includes:

  • ‘The Rose’ – A rose shaped donut filled with prosecco custard in honour of all the sparkling Roses missing out on the chance to strut their stuff this year.

  • ‘Dapper Dáithí’ – A suited and booted donut filled with Nutella that is almost as smooth as the shows famously well dressed host, Dáithí Ó Sé.

  • ‘Glitz and Glam’ – A brilliantly glittery gold vanilla glazed donut to give us all a taste of the glamour we’re missing out on.

The trio of donuts is available for a limited time from Deliveroo from Friday, August 21 until Saturday August 22, priced at €9.00 per box.

Aren’t they a lovely bunch?
