Things are about to get worse for Corrie’s Jack Webster after being diagnosed with sepsis

Jade Hayden

Devastating.

During last night’s episode of Coronation Street, Jack Webster was diagnosed with sepsis.

The youngster had been under the care of sister Sophie when he fell and grazed his knee. A rare reaction to an infection meant that Jack contracted sepsis and was left in intensive care.

Towards the end of the episode, Jack’s dad Kevin was told that his son had contracted the life-threatening condition and that the next 24 hours would be “crucial.”

It has since been revealed that things are only going to get worse for Jack as doctors say that the boy is going to lose his leg.

In upcoming episodes, a consultant at the hospital examines Jack’s leg and discovers that his infection is spreading. In order to stop it, the consultant tells Kevin that they will need to amputate.

Kevin tells the hospital that they can go ahead with the procedure but then has to inform his son of what’s about to happen.

The scenes will be emotional, as Kevin grapples with the idea of Jack finding out he’ll struggle to play football as he spots a pair of his son’s boots at home.

Sister Sophie then overhears Kevin telling Gina that he wishes he hadn’t let her look after Jack when the accident happened.

She is, understandably, upset and confides in Kate that her dad blames her for what’s happened.

Coronation Street continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
