WATCH: The terrifying trailer for the new Scream movie just dropped

Ghostface is back.

The highly-anticipated trailer for the new Scream movie has just been released and there are a few familiar faces to be seen.

The trailer shows Dewey (David Arquette) call Sidney (Neve Campbell) to inform her that a new series of murders has started happening in Woodsboro.

This leads the two to team up with Gail (Courtney Cox) to take on the masked killer once again.

The trailer shows Sidney come face-to-face with the killer at the end, as he says: “Hello Sidney, it’s an honour.”

But who is behind the iconic mask this time?

The movie features a cast of new stars including Dylan Minnette from 13 Reasons Why and Jenny Ortega, who starred in Netflix’s You. And as the franchise is known for its twists and turns, these newcomers could either be Ghostface’s victims or potential suspects.

A new poster was also released for the movie on Sunday, featuring the tag line “Its always someone you know.”

With that in mind, it’s probably safe to start speculating that the murderer is one of the many cast members who appear in the trailer.

This is the first movie in the franchise to be released after creator Wes Craven’s death in 2015. The new film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, whose last project together was horror-comedy Ready or Not in 2019.

Although it is the fifth installment in the slasher film series, the official title remains the stand-alone “Scream”.

Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, Courtney Cox revealed that the movie is not a direct sequel to Scream 4 or a remake of the original movie.

“This is the fifth one, you know, it’s not Scream 5 though. This is Scream,” she said.

“The directors are just incredible. It’s hip, it’s scary, it’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.”

The movie is set for release in cinemas in January 2022.
