All sweets and chocolate will be removed from tills across stores in Ireland and the UK.

Tesco are helping people be healthier by removing all sweets and chocolates from their checkout areas by the end of the year.

According to reports this morning, all confectionery goods will be removed from tills across stores in Ireland and the UK.

The change has already happened in larger stores but will now apply to all outlets including Express and Metro stores.

The decision comes after over two thirds of parents said it would help them buy healthier items for their children.

Chief executive Philip Clarke said: “We all know how easy it is to be tempted by sugary snacks at the checkout and we want to help our customers lead healthier lives”.

While we’re not sure it will deter us from sneaking a chocolate bar or two into our basket, we’re happy to have a (healthy) helping hand!
