Meet the coffee tonic – the fizzy iced drink you’ll be cooling down with this summer

Say hello to the C&T.

If you are a fan of iced lattes or frappuccinos to cool off with weather heats up, chances are you are going to love this latest chilled coffee trend – the coffee tonic.

Sounds odd? We are taking ice. Caffeine. Bubbles. And together, they form an ideal hot-weather drink — unlike anything you have ever sipped before.

And the best bit? It is pretty darn simple to make.

The drink, which is also sometimes known as an espresso tonic,  is made most often with a double shot of espresso poured into a glass of tonic water over ice.

That’s it.

And trust me – it is delicious!

A quick Pinterest search into the phenomenon also told me that food bloggers, of course, have put their own spin on the drink, with many adding a sugar syrup to sweethen it, or even adding flavours such as chocolate, raspberry, even grapefruit and lavender or chilli!

Keen on making your own? Here is a simple recipe to try:

6 oz tonic water

2 oz espresso

Ice
