'Salad cakes' have arrived and we can't stop drooling
They have the BEST stuff in Japan.
Okay... we may have overindulged with the Oreo Tacos, we feel a teensy bit guilty for leading you down that beautiful road filled with chocolate and regret. So let's change direction, how about a cake so delectable, you could finish it off in one sitting? You'd feel pretty guilty right? WRONG... It's all good for you.
Vegetable cakes are a new craze gathering pace in Japan. The brain-child of food stylist and cafe owner, Mitsuki Moriyasu the "Vegedeco Salad" (decorated vegetables) is being labeled a guilt-free alternative to traditional baked goods.
CNN reports that the substitute cream "frosting" is made of tofu, the "sponge" base comes from soy powder, eggs and vegetable oil, while the rainbow "icing" come from natural vegetable colorings such as red beetroot juice. Then you basically decorate the whole darn thing with veggies.
Brace yourselves... some ridiculously beautiful cakes are coming up...
'Lettuce' all rejoice at this glorious 'turnip' for the books.
We'll just leave now.
