Tapas, with a twist: 3 Dublin restaurants doing delicious and different sharing plates

Jade Hayden

Got mates?

Want to share some food with them in Dublin and the surrounding area?

Want that food to be fish focused, Tandoori, or Chinese inspired? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Tapas is traditionally Spanish, but these days, pretty much every cuisine is trying its hand at a decent sharing plate or two.

Here are three Dublin restaurants doing just that that.

1. Octopussy’s, Howth

Fish, fish, and more fish – would else would you expect from a restaurant called Octopussy’s, really?

This delightful spot has been a seafood staple in Howth for years, and with good reason too. Their sharing menu is available to enjoy five days a week, and includes some delectable little numbers including prawns pil pil, scampi, chilli and chorizo squid, and whiskey scallops.

If you’re in the mood for a substantial plate, you’d be best diving into the two-person €32 shellfish platter, comprised of gambas, crab claws, whole Dublin bay prawns with a bowl of mussels in white wine and cream sauce.

Octopussy is also serving up approximately 20 more smaller dishes with delicious sides to go with them.

Spoiled for choice, as long as you like fish, obviously.

2. Kinara Kitchen, Ranelagh

Tapas, but make it Pakistani.

If you’re at all in the market for a few tasty, Tandoori bites among friends this week, you’d do well to pop out to Ranelagh for a go of Kinara Kitchen’s new sharing platter.

The Tandoori Khas sharing plate contains a delicious selection of chicken, lamb, jumbo prawns and aloo tikki all cooked in sizzling tandoori style.

There’s also a class cocktail menu on offer too, if you fancied adding a little tipple to your tasting.

Kinara Kitchen’s new sharing plate menu is available Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm-6.30pm and from 1pm-6.30pm on Sundays.

Get the prawns, lads. You deserve.

3. Hang Dai, Camden St

If you have yet to try Hang Dai, you need to try Hang Dai.

Voted one of the best Chinese restaurants in Europe (because it is), the popular Camden St spot has been serving up incredible meats, fishes, and veggie foods for a couple of years now.

While most of their menu is pretty much made for sharing, it’s the pre-ordered duck that you’d want to get your hands on if you’re in the market for a top-notch tapas… with a difference, because it’s a duck.

Other notable dishes perfect for tucking into as a twosome, threesome, or however-many-some include the sensational sesame prawn sourdough toast, the courgette spring rolls, and the steamed egg with crab meat.

Next level feed, for real.
