‘Cloud Bread’ Is The Anti-Carb Everyone’s Eating For Weight Loss
When you’re up and down on the diet, lifestyle and fitness bandwagons – it can be pretty heart wrenching having to give up certain foods.
For some of us (this writer included), bread is one of life’s little pleasures.
Unfortunately, your infatuation with a sliced loaf can come between you and your target on the scales.
So it’s hardly surprising that the trend of baking ‘cloud bread’ is becoming a big hit.
Spotted on Pinterest by Women’s Health, there’s been a 73 per cent increase in people sharing snaps of their home creation online.
For anyone cutting back on refined carbs, this bread loaf is a grain-free, low-carb alternative to your regular slice – containing just half the calories of a slice of regular bread, and one gram of carbs per gram.
So what is this bread-like substitute made of?
Edwina Clark, head of nutrition and wellness at Yummly, revealed the ingredients listing and their unique benefits:
"Cloud bread is a high-protein alternative to bread, made of eggs, cream cheese, cream of tartar, and sweetener.
"It's made by whipping egg whites with cream of tartar to give it a fluffy texture (hence the name), and then gently folding in a mixture of egg yolks, cream cheese and sweetener."
It also boasts the advantage of being higher in protein, and packed full of nutrients and vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin D, phosphorus, choline, and selenium.
The gluten-free, Paleo friendly bread can also be frozen and toasted – so whip up a few batches and pull from the freezer before your new work week begins.
Don’t forget that carbs are important for brain function and working muscles, so stock up on sweet potatoes, high-fibre cereals or quinoa to prevent hunger and the onset of fatigue.
