Look, you can't go wrong with avocados.
Whether it's a toast situation, a salad situation, or simply a eat-straight-out-of-the-skin-with-a-spoon-situation, the humble avocado has been delighting our lunch and brunchtimes for a while now.
Primarily associated with eggs, butter, and the housing crisis, the fruit has become a staple of the millennial diet and, to be honest, it's delicious so we're here for it.
One thing we have yet to sample though is an avocado cocktail.
Probably because the concept in general sounds a bit mad and we're not really sure how they would work, but also because not a whole lot of places are actually serving them.
A few restaurants and bars far, far away are though, so looks like we'll be taking a few trips to Australia and America soon enough.
In the meantime though, we can always get our alcoholic avocado on here from the comfort of our own homes by making one ourselves.
Alright, it probably won't be half as delicious and might actually be a bit dodgy if it's not blended properly, but the idea is in our heads now so we need to give it a go.
According to a recipe on
epicurious, all you'll need is a few avos, a load of rum, and some other bits.
Those other bits are:
- 2 ounces light rum
- 2 ounces gold rum
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
- 2 ounces simple syrup
- 1/4 medium-ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1/2 ounce half-and-half
- 1 1/2 cups ice
All you do is throw all of the above into a blender, blitz it until it's smooth, and you're done.
