And in today's lesson... we shouldn't drink champagne out of a flute glass. Yep, there we were, thinking we're being all ~*fancy*~ but nope, we're completely wrong. Krug Champagne's CEO, Maggie Henriquez, told The Drinks Business, "You don't use flutes. You see, using a flute is like going to a concert with ear plugs because it will not let you enjoy what is inside. "Flutes are for bad Champagne, sorbet or gazpacho," she explained. To further that, Sam Caporn, who is a 'Master of Wine' told Good Housekeeping, "The traditional Champagne flute is too narrow as it traps the aromatics and you don't get as much out of the glass. "For example you don't smell as much as you should. The gorgeous 1920s coupe glasses have the reverse problem in that they let out too much, which can then get lost, as there is too much surface area so the bubbles can dissipate faster." Apparently, using a tulip glass or a white wine glass will allow you to actually taste the bubbles, and makes them fresher as well. "We still drink from flutes out of habit and lack of knowledge but we should all be moving to tulips," Sam said. "Not only do they make your fizz taste better, but they make your fizz look better too! If you don't have a tulip you are better off using a white wine glass." No need to splash out on fancy flute glasses anymore, so!
