Ireland set to become a ‘gin destination’ and we are more than delighted

Um, yes please, that would be great, thank you.

Gin has certainly become the tipple of choice here in Ireland. The minute we heard about the likes of pink gin, gin calendars and colour-changing gin, we were right on it. Well, Ireland is planning on make the country a gin destination in the next five years and we certainly have no objections.

Pat Rigney is Chair of the Irish Gin Working Group and founder of The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo County Leitrim said: "Particularly in rural Ireland in creating jobs, I see more people coming into the business, more distilleries. I see growth. I see significant job creation. "Visiting Ireland will be a bit like visiting Burgundy, Cognac or Bordeaux in France where you'll be able to stop off and enjoy the experience and go on to the next one." Well, if that doesn't sound like The Dream, we don't what what will. Brian Fagan, founder of Glendalough Distillery in Wicklow also agrees that there has been a major expansion in the area: "We're now at a stage from 2011 when it was just an idea, we employ 17 people, we've 6 people on the ground in the U.S., we've 4 down in the distillery making gin and whiskey and poitín and export is 80 percent, we're in 40 markets around the world."
