Here’s why you should never skip lunch while you’re at work

Megan Roantree

Are you guilty of this?

Sometimes when you’re at work you can get caught up in errands and never actually get around to taking a proper full hour lunch-break.

Obviously skipping meals is never a good idea but skipping lunch can affect your work performance as well as your body.

Research has found that skipping lunch with not only make you hungry, but it will hinder your productivity in the long run at work.

Taking the time to actually take a break from your work and refuel with a nutritious meal can improve cognitive performance according to Business Insider.

“Avoid skipping meals and inconsistent eating patterns to prevent drops in blood glucose levels,” Erin Palinski Wade, author of Belly Fat Diet For Dummies said.

“The brain’s main source of energy is glucose, so you want to maintain steady blood-glucose levels throughout the day to perform at your peak. For this reason, eating every two to four hours should help to provide you with the energy you need to stay focused and alert.”

As well as lowering your productivity, your blood sugar dropping means you are vulnerable to cravings. Which means you’ll be more likely to crave unhealthy treats rather than substantial meals.

It is also recommended that the lunch you chose isn’t just pure refined-carbs and this will only satisfy you for a short time, a balanced meal with slow releasing carbs is your best option for  a filling, satisfying lunch which won’t damage productivity.
