Apparently, we should all just ditch wearing bras

Ok, we're listening...

Apparently it’s not all going to go down south.

A 15 year study has reported that wearing a bra will not prevent your boobs from sagging, and might actually be detrimental to your attempts at keeping your perky pair.

Researchers at the University of Besançon in France concluded that despite what we might have initially thought was the golden rule – wearing a bra actually increases your risk of sagging boobs as it weakens the muscles that hold up the breasts.

Professor Rouillon used a slide rule and a caliper (a device used to measure the distance between two opposite sides of an object) to measure changes in breast features of hundreds of women over the 15-year trial period at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Besançon.

The paper also notes that all his volunteers were between 18 and 35 years old.

According to Medical News Today, the report shows that women who never wore bras had nipples on average seven millimeters higher in relation to their shoulders each year than regular bra users.

So should we be cut out the cups?

Speaking on French radio this morning, Professor Rouillon said:

“Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.”

While we support any motto that gives the thumbs up for ditching the bra the minute you walk in the door, we’re not too sure this is the most practical advice going.

It is nice to know that you have a medical excuse to spend weekends sans support though…
