Many women are concerned about HPV as there have been many changes in testing for this infection along with the presence of a vaccine in the past few years. There are many different sub-types of HPV, some of which cause normal childhood warts, some which cause genital warts in sexually active adults (sub-types 6 and 11) and some which are known to be responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancers (sub-types 16 and 18) .
Once you have received your test (within two days), follow the picture instructions and post back the test-kit by pre-paid post. Your results will then be processed by an accredited laboratory. An email will then be sent to you when your results are ready, so all you have to do is access your secure personal account to get all the information you need.
This quick and easy method takes all the stress and dread out of getting a sexual health test. The steps are easy – order from the lab, conduct the test and access your results just a few days later from your mobile phone or laptop.
It is really important however to remember that if you experience any symptoms such as pain in the abdomen, vagina or abnormal bleeding, you MUST see a sexual health specialist or GUM clinic or your GP.
This exciting new test is set to change the landscape of sexual health testing, however it is important to remember that women should still attend their GP for smear tests every three years from the age of 25 onwards.
