The ink used in tattooing has reportedly been proven to cause cancer.

These days, tattoos are incredibly en vogue.

We have celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Zayn Malik and Cheryl constantly showing off their latest inkings, proud of the latest addition to their growing collection, with fans often copying their idol’s designs.

Many may reconsider going under the needle after a new report carried out by the European Chemicals Agency (ECA) warned that the ink used for tattooing can potentially cause cancer.

The agency warned of the dangers of being tattooed, with inks causing itching, allergic reactions and skin loss listed as the disadvantages to being inked.

“Many reports show significant concerns for public health stemming from the composition of inks used for tattooing.

“The most severe concerns are allergies caused by the substances in the inks and possible carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductively toxic effects.”

The ink used in tattooing is currently not regulated by any specific European law, with some shops even tattooing without certified Government regulation.

Scientists carrying out the report confirmed that red ink is the most dangerous of colours promising the most immediate agitation of the skin.

Red was closely followed by blue, green and black causing long-term skin problems for people.

The findings are set to crack down on the lack of regulation in relation to tattoo shops and the resources they use.
