107-year-old woman says the secret to a long life is not getting married

A 107-year-old woman has said she believes the key to living a long life is never getting married.

Louise Jean Signore was born in 1912 – and has been living in the Bronx since she was 14-years-old. She invited more than 100 guests to celebrate her big day earlier this week.

And who is proud of her Italian heritage, told CBS about how she thinks good home food – as well as lots of and fruits and vegetables – factored in to her longevity.

However, Ms Signore – who lives alone – said she reckons there’s one more thing that helped.

“I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that’s the secret,” she told the news outlet. “My sisters says, ‘I wish I never got married.'”

The 107-year-old said there were a few more things, though, that definitely helped.

“Italian food. Italian food is very good for you. I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake,” she said.

It turns out, though, that her long life is more than luck – and that it actually runs in the family. Her sister is 102-years-old.

“If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they have dancing, I dance. I still a do a little dancing. After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day,” she said, as she described what she normally does in a day.

“[My sister] doesn’t take any medicine! I’m 107 and I just take a high blood pressure pill, that’s all.”

Ms Signore also admitted she couldn’t quite understand what the fuss about her birthday was all about.

“I said I’ve had enough parties,” she said.
