A 20 minute taxi ride ended up costing this man €12,000

And they didn't want to refund him

How Hellish.

A man was charged more than ten grand for a 5-mile Uber ride.

The man, from Toronto, had to shell out $18,500CD (€12,000) after a glitch in the pricing caused his bill to surge.

According to Slate, the ride should have cost between $12-$16, and at first Uber wouldn’t even refund him the money.

However, the man’s friend, Emily Kannard, called the company out on Twitter.

She wrote: “My friend was charged 18K for a 20 Min ride (!), and they are sticking to it. What in the world??? This is insane!”

And of course, after any good Twitter rant, Uber decided to stand down and give the man his refund.

“There was an error here and it has been resolved,” Uber said in a statement.

“We have provided a full refund to this rider and apologized to him for this experience. We have safeguards in place to help prevent something like this from happening, and we are working to understand how this occurred.”
