Like in the novel ‘PS, I Love You’, wife Ashley wasn’t aware that Mitchell had been penning the letters, and found the bundle after her husband died this week.
When collecting her late husband’s belongings from the hospital, Ashley discovered the package, with the first letter explaining Mitchell’s plan to stay a part of her and daughter Bryn’s life.
Mitchell, who was just 26-years old, passed away in hospital from fatal complications which were a side condition to a rare genetic disorder ge suffered from, Marfan Syndrome, which affects the body’s connective tissue.
Speaking to KLTV, Ashley said:
“I know he was thinking about us. He was always thinking of others.
“He left letters for her 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th birthday and on the 16th he wrote ‘Sweet 16” on the front.”
In the first letter, Ashley told reporters her husband asked for the community to support his family:
“If this is being read, I have passed. In this grieving period for my wife, the last thing I want her to worry about is the coming cost of my funeral.
“I would ask the community to come together for last donation drive to help with the cost of my funeral. I will be cremated in the next few days. I would just like my wife’s mind to be at ease.
“Thank you in advance and also thank you for all your help you gave me and my family in our times of need.”
