Just when you thought Monday couldn’t get more morbid.

According to Statistician Hachem Saddiki, by the turn of the century, the number of dead people on Facebook will outnumber the living.

By 2098, Hachem has said the social network will become the world’s largest virtual graveyard.

The Ph.D. student has based his findings on the fact that Facebooks growth is slowing and that the site also continues to refuse to automatically delete dead users.

According to Digital Beyond, In 2010, it was 385,968 users died and in 2012 it was 580,000. Continuing the same trends, it is expected that this year, 972,000 Facebook users will die.

Morbid.

The data is collected by collating data from Facebook and the Centers for Disease Control.

At the moment when a user dies, Facebook automatically turns their page into a memorial one. The only way to delete the account is to have someone with the password login and delete it.
