Goals proved to be decisive on the day.

Athleague (Roscommon) booked their spot in this year’s AIB All-Ireland junior club camogie final with a 2-8 to 0-5 win over Loughgiel Shamrocks of Antrim.

The talented side must now wait to see who they will face on the big day, as the second semi-final between Kildare’s Johnstownbridge and Kerry’s Clanmaurice fell foul of inclement weather conditions.

For Athleague though, a determined and spirited performance, particularly in the second half, saw them drive home to victory.

The difference between the sides ultimately lay in the strategic use of the weather conditions, with Athleague using the strong wind to their advantage to secure the win.

A 20th minute goal from Leanne Kelly also proved to be crucial for Athleague, as they began to open up a gap on the scoreboard to give themselves a five-point cushion at the break (1-4 to 0-2).

A fantastic display by their defence in the second half underpinned an all-round good performance, and despite the best efforts from a well-drilled Shamrocks forward line, it just wasn’t their day.

A goal from Fiona Connell Jones with just five minutes gone in the second half put Athleague well and truly in the driving seat to book their spot in the final.
