Polish athlete Pawel Fajdek did his country proud by winning a gold medal in the hammer throwing event at the World Athletic Championships in Bejing on Monday.
Like many others might, he headed out on the town for the night to celebrate his success… but in a classic case of “know the one that’s one too many”, he went a little too far in his jubilation.
According to Chinese media reports today, Fajdek, 26, was a little worse for wear when the time came to go home, and woke up to find his hunk of gold missing.
The worried sportsman contacted police, who helped him retrace his steps. It turned out that Fadjek had willingly offered the precious medal to a taxi driver in lieu of his fare home.
After speaking with police, the driver agreed to return the medal to Fajdek.
