The bizarre thing you should never wear going to the airport

And it's not what you'd think.

Save yourself the stress.

Deciding on what to wear to the airport can be a tricky one. Depending on your end destination, you have to take your home climate, the predicted weather of your destination and the ever-changing temperatures on the plane into account.

You also have to think about comfort and general cosiness.

And then there’s the issue of airport security. While most people recommend layering for the aforementioned changing temperature, it can be a nightmare when it comes to going through security as you hold up a queue of angry holiday-goers while you peel off layer after layer.

However, there is one thing we would never have thought would have caused a problem, and we’re guilty of testing the boundaries ourselves.

According to one TSA officer who spent more than five years working in LAX security, there is one thing she wishes those heading to the airport would not wear.

Hair slides.

Yep, according to Kimberly Pruitt, those pesky little clips can cause a problem when passing through security.

“Believe it or not, too many bobby pins will set off the metal detector alarm,” she told Who What Wear.

“If you’re looking to maintain your hair and skip the pat down, then I would suggest getting dolled up after the screening.”

So while you might be trying to control the flyaways from your messy travel topknot, we think we’ll be doing without the hair slides from now on.
