A blogger faked a trip to Disneyland and it was fairly convincing

Jade Hayden

Fair play.

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram and thought ‘wow, all of these people are living such fun, rich, and true lives’ then think again because you are incorrect.

While almost nothing we see on the internet is true, things we see on Instagram are especially not true.

There’s filters, FaceTune, and the fact that the place is inundated with bloggers meaning that it’s even more likely that you’re going to come across people pretending they’re absolutely happy with their lives and not crippled with anxiety or debt or other bad things that tend to affect most of us.

One blogger who wanted to prove how fake Instagram has become is Carolyn Stritch.

However, instead of simply deciding to share some posed photos of herself to detail the importance of angles, she literally faked a trip to Disneyland.

… And everyone believed her.

Fair play, like.

First, Carolyn shared a photo of herself in bed on her “22nd birthday” saying she had planned a little treat for herself.

Except it wasn’t and she’s actually 32.

Carolyn used FaceTune to make herself look younger and no one even noticed… not even her mam, apparently.

Next, Carolyn uploaded a photo of herself outside Sleeping Beauty’s castle, full blogger pose and everything.

It looks real and you’d be forgiven for assuming that she was actually there, but of course, she wasn’t.

Carloyn simply uploaded a photo of the castle and edited herself into it – very well, we might add.

Later, Carolyn came clean saying that she had “hacked” her own Instagram account.

She wrote:

“For me, Instagram is a positive experience. But I know that’s not the case for a lot of people. Instagram is apparently full of these ‘slim, prosperous, happy, extroverted and popular’ – a bit like my perfect self.

“I wanted my fictional narrative to challenge the way I portray myself online and the effects of this portrayal.

“I don’t usually FaceApp my face or pretend I’ve been places I haven’t. But I never read by the window – those windows, beautiful as they are, make my flat freezing cold. Sometimes that coffee cup I’m holding is empty. I suck in my stomach. I rearrange the furniture. I photoshop out dirty marks made by bashing furniture off the walls.

Is it bad to do those things? I don’t know.”

We don’t know either, tbh.

One thing is for sure though – Carolyn, you’ve got some mad Photoshop skills on you.
