A couple tried for kids for 17 years – then they had sextuplets

It doesn’t rain but it pours!

A Nigerian couple recently welcomed six new arrivals into their home, having tried to conceive for 17 years.

Ajibola and Adeboye Taiwo from West Nigeria became the proud parents of six when Ajibola gave birth to sextuplets at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia in the US.

After 17 years of trying to have children, the couple learned that they were to become parents in November, reports USA Today.

That first ultrasound revealed four heartbeats, while another scan two months later brought the number to six.

Ajibola gave birth by C-section at 30 weeks and two days to three girls and three boys.

The birth was assisted by a 40-person team at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Centre.

The hospital has said that all the babies are doing well.

“We are far from home but the medical team is our family, that is what got us this far,” said Adeboye.

“I hope for the smallest of my six children to grow up and say, ‘I was so small, and look at me now,'” said Ajibola.

“I want my kids (to) come back to VCU and study and learn to care for others with the same people who cared for me and my family.”
