There’s some big clashes this weekend.

Another busy weekend of basketball lies ahead as the Women’s Premier League continues in full swing.

Team Montenotte Hotel got back to winning ways this week when they overcame Singleton SuperValu Brunell 75-55 on Thursday evening.

Elsewhere, this weekend’s fixture is a must-win for Portlaoise Panthers, who have labelled their clash with UL Huskies as crucial in their bid to avoid relegation from the Women’s Premier League.

It’s the midlanders’ maiden season in the top tier and they have struggled with form and player availability to date. Tracey Fallon returns to the squad ahead of their meeting with UL Huskies, the only team they’ve beaten as the season enters its middle third.

“We just feel that although we’ve lost our two home games this year by a basket, our best performances are in front of our home crowd,” said head coach Peter O’Sullivan.

“We would hope this weekend would be no different. We could even be further up the league with a bit of luck.”

Meanwhile, one of the games of the weekend will be the clash of on-form DCU Mercy and Pyrobel Killester when they meet in Clontarf on Saturday evening, while Courtyard Liffey Celtic and Maxol WIT Wildcats will battle it out in Leixlip.
