Irish billionaire Denis O’ Brien’s legal team has served website Waterford Whispers News with a cease and desist letter.

The letter refers to a satirical article featuring a photoshopped image of Denis and portraying him as a convicted criminal.

Denis’ legal team have asked for the article to be removed.

Lawyers for the Communicorp founder have stated that the piece, which has since been removed, was “a malicious and deliberate defamation of the most serious kind”.

Writer and founder of WWN, Colm Williamson tweeted a picture of the legal document along with the caption “You know you’re doing something right when a multi-billionaire megalomaniac sends you a cease and desist letter”.

Lawyers have asked for all references to the article to be removed from the website as well as social media.

The team advised that they will take necessary steps to protect their “client’s good name and reputation” if these demands are not met.
