Drivers can avail of free coffee at Applegreen petrol stations this weekend

What a good idea...

It’s an initiative to help people stay safe this weekend.

Feeling sleepy while you’re driving is a common feeling, and two companies have teamed up to help combat those droopy eyes at the wheel this bank holiday weekend.

Many people take a long weekend to drive down the country, go on a nice expedition or two or many of us may find ourselves on a dreaded hen party – either way, many of us will be racking up the mileage.

Applegreen and the Road Safety Authority have teamed up and had the genius idea of supplying free coffee to tired drivers.

Applegreen petrol stations around the country are offering free coffee to drivers today and on Monday from 2pm-6pm.

The only catch being that you must say ‘RSA’ or ‘Driver Reviver’ to the till cashier to get your free cuppa.

According to the Irish MirrorCEO of the RSA warned of the dangers of driving with fatigue:

“Bank holiday weekends are a high risk period for road-users as there are typically more people on the roads, travelling greater distances…

“We’re urging all drivers to watch out for signs of tiredness and to not take any risks.

“Pull over, have a coffee or caffeinated drink, and never drive when you are too tired to focus fully on the road.”

Over the weekend, take your time travelling wherever you’re going and make sure to drop into your local Applegreen should you feel tired.
