All over Europe, Axel was respected and remembered.

Munster fans already know just how special the atmosphere at Thomond Park can be for any big European game, but Saturday’s match against Glasgow Warriors won’t be topped in terms of sheer emotion.

On the field, the two-time winners of the Heineken Cup did the business with a stellar 38-17 win over Gregor Townsend’s side, however, events on the pitch were always going to be dwarfed by the swell of emotion from the stands as supporters said goodbye to a club icon.

Anthony Foley’s sad passing has united the Irish rugby community but the respect and admiration that the former Munster captain inspired wasn’t just confined to the 32 counties.

All over Europe, teams in the Champions Cup celebrated Foley’s memory with these emotional, memorable and heartfelt scenes.
