We all know that a cup of coffee can regularly be the difference between functioning in an office or struggling though the first few hours of your day.

Recent studies suggest restricting your coffee intake to specific times in the day to get the maximum boost from those beans, yet 80 per cent of American workers have noted that they suffer with caffeine related anxiety.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, the increase in avid coffee-drinkers is directly linked to a rise in panic and anxiety disorders in the workforce.

So how else should we be kick starting our day?

Researchers have noted that sex and intimacy such as kissing and cuddling can act as a natural relaxant, as the body releases the feel-good hormone ‘oxytocin’.

As well as reducing stress, sex can help raise your serotonin levels – giving your body the same boost as exercise endorphins.

The reduced levels of stress also mean workers are more likely to be in a relaxed state – which allows them to better focus their attention on their project.

So the upshot?

Making morning sex part of your daily routine could have benefits that last much longer in your day than that quick coffee high and ultimate comedown.

So swap one vice for the other, and everyone could be a winner.
