Every week, for our ‘Food High Five’ series, we’re going to talk about food that has great health benefits.
This week, we’re looking at foods that keep you fuller for longer.
Apples
This fruit contains fibre and water, both of which make you feel full. Having an apple before or after a meal is a healthy alternative to a biscuit and will reduce your appetite.
Soup
Soup might not seem like a filling dish but it actually takes up a lot of volume in your stomach without the added calories.
Pulses
Pulses such as beans, chickpeas and lentils are packed full of antioxidants, fibre and minerals (including iron) which stave off hunger.
Eggs
It is said that, due to the fact that they are rich in protein, egg-based breakfast and lunch meals keep hunger at bay for longer.
Dark chocolate
If you have a sweet tooth, your best option is dark chocolate. It is more filling and richer than other types which means you will need less to satisfy your cravings.
